Having good oral health habits will go a long way in keeping your veneers looking great for many years.

While they are made of sturdy materials designed to handle a lot of abuse, there are some foods to avoid after getting veneers.

What are Veneers Made Of?

Veneers, sometimes called porcelain laminates, are made of a wafer-thin shell, that is custom-made to match the color and shape of your teeth to improve their appearance and cover imperfections. They are made of composite resin or porcelain.

How Should I Care for Veneers?

The most important thing you can do to take care of your new veneers is to practice good oral health at home. Carefully brushing with a soft bristle toothbrush, flossing, and keeping your regular dental checkups with our office can extend the life of your veneers.

What Foods Should I Avoid After Getting Veneers?

Depending on whether you have temporary -not bonded to your teeth- or permanent veneers that are bonded, you will need to be especially careful with what you eat.

•  Some foods to avoid if you have temporary veneers are, crusty breads, hard candy or popcorn, crunchy foods in general, any foods that can stain, such as coffee, tea, soda, red wine or tomato products, drinks with food coloring, and others.
•  Among the foods to avoid with permanent veneers are, hard foods and dark liquids, such as tea or coffee. You should also limit your alcohol consumption because it can destroy the bonding materials and avoid smoking of chewing tobacco because it will stain your veneers.
