|Decreasing the amount of sugar intake from your diet is always a good thing. The positive effects of less sugar are clearly evident – better skin, mental clarity, weight loss and well, it has long been known that your teeth will certainly benefit as well.
Have many times have you heard the phrase that if you eat too much candy, it will rot your teeth. But, cutting down on sugar will benefit your mouth in more ways than just your teeth.
Understanding BacteriaBacteria in your mouth are unavoidable, when sugar is consumed, you feed the bacteria that combine with the sugar which in turn produces acid which will rot your teeth. When you cut down on the consumption of sugar, you essentially starve that bacteria.
What are the other ways cutting down on sugar will improve your oral health? It stands to reason that less tooth decay will decrease your chance of getting cavities – which is the cause of losing your teeth. Oral hygiene is linked in many ways to your heart health. Many fail to realize that the mouth is the gateway to the body. So, in essence, your body will reap the good rewards of keeping the sugar out of your mouth.
You will experience less discoloration in your teeth. Cavities turn your teeth black, which sugar is the main cause. Black from a cavity is not the same as from a tea or a coffee stain. Keep your mouth sugar free, and you won't have teeth that will turn colors because they are decayed.
Your breath will naturally improve, because sugar also feeds the bacteria that causes bad breath, so no more sugar – no more bad breath. There are always sugar-free options for gum.
